JAMBO AFRICA |
“In East Africa I quickly learned that less is more and that I had not lived until I had smelled the damp evening air, day's dust and night's fires, heard lion cubs meowing by a track-side puddle, and laughed with women whose lifestyle and language are so different from my own. The dance along the equatorial rift will continue for my lifetime!”

Venture with Gail LaRocca on a spectacular audiovisual safari and explore the culture, wildlife and landscape of Tanzania, East Africa. It’s a full hour of sharing how most of the rest of the world lives!
Gaze across the sun baked plains dotted with extinct volcanoes and soda lakes swarming with flamingos. Be still and watch as the giraffe periscope through stands of yellow-barked acacia and adolescent elephants joust at the waterhole.
Visit with the Maasai warriors tending their precious cattle, Hadza hunter-gatherers, Kusuma farmers, village merchants and school children. Discover the striking cultural differences and abundant similarities to our own lifestyle.
Examine a nation where clean water, access to health care and job opportunities is a challenge. See the delight on the faces of youngsters wearing soccer uniforms brought over from the States.
Both programs follow a similar format: Swahili introduction and donning of three clothing styles by student volunteers; 20 minutes of fast-paced images; a robust segment of question and answer.
Here is the distinction between the two programs:
Adventure Africa – Set in a more intimate classroom setting, Gail passes around artifacts that include, jewelry, work tools, and clothing. She asks, and answers, a full range of questions about animals and childhood activities.
Jambo Africa - Participants will engage in a lively discussion with Gail about the challenges facing Tanzania: health, education, water resources, job opportunities, infrastructure and political atmosphere. A breadth of questions are answered about body adornments, photographic films and camera lens, lion behavior, climate - you name it!
